History of the Adidas Predator

The history of the Adidas Predator football boot

Due to the prestige and innovation of the Adidas Predator I thought it would be geat to tell you about the history and how the new range differ significantly to the very first ever developed, yet still keeping the legend out in front.

The first Adidas Predator football boot was launched in 1994 after Craig Johnston, a retired Australian footballer who played for Liverpool, attached rubber patches with teeth-like dimples to his football boots on the kicking area. He did this in theory to improve the swerve and spin on the ball when either passing or shooting.

In 1995 - The second of the Predator series came along called the Adidas Rapier Predator football boot. This was very similar to the first release however it was the first ever boot to use a fold over tongue. Ever since the first release, Adidas has launched a new model every two years to coincide with either the FIFA World Cup or the UEFA European Football Championships - and this is why the first model was called the Adidas Predator Cup.

In 1996 - Adidas developed a Traction system that was used in the Adidas Predator Touch Football Boot. This was developed to give more grip and acceleration.

In 1998 - To celebrate the 1998 FIFA World Cup in France, Adidas launched the Predator Accelerator football boot. This football boot sported an asymmetrical loop lacing system providing a larger kicking surface

In 2002 - During the World Cup the Adidas Predator Mania was released providing a much lighter boot, and promising to give even more swerve than ever before.

In 2004 - The Adidas Predator Pulse was released incorporating Predator PowerPulse technology. This technology waa supposed to give more power and speed when striking the ball

In 2006 - During the World Cup in Germany the Adidas Predator Absolute was released again containing the Powerswerve technology.

In 2008 - We now have the very innovative Adidas Predator Powerswerve. Again, this boot gives even more power and swerve than any other Predator before. This is produced by the Serve Zone at the side of the boot.
