Looking after your football boots
New season… new boots. But how do you look after them? We can’t all be David Beckham and play in a new pair of boots every game.
Once you’ve decided on the boots for you, whether you’ve gone for lightweight to help you roast defenders, or colourful to stand out from the rest of the team, you’ll have spent a fair bit of cash. Whilst the first few games are generally played in blistering sunshine, you’ll then have to contend with a fair few months of rain and mud. So, how do you ensure your boots stay in tip top condition and last you the full season?
Here are a few tips for looking after your leather boots:
- After games, knock off the loose mud and wipe the rest of the boot clean with a damp cloth.
- Allow your boots to dry naturally and not near a radiator.
- Stuff them with screwed up newspaper to keep them in shape and absorb any moisture.
- Once they’ve dried completely, polish them to preserve the leather and keep them supple.
- It’s also a good idea to protect leather boots with a Dubbin or natural leather oil which will help keep them waterproof and the leather supple.
- Don’t be lazy and make sure you always undo laces before putting your boots on and off, if you don’t, your boots will eventually not support your heel.
