Hoka Challenger ATR 4 Trail Running Shoes

Often called the Clifton for trails, Challenger ATR 4 looks even more like a Clifton with its cleaner, less busy look and more breathable upper. Like the Clifton 4, the Challenger ATR 4 is fast and light, offering a smooth ride. Where it diverges from the Clifton and takes the path less travelled is in its multi-lugged outsole. Arranged closer together towards the heel for smoother, more consistent ride, its lugs have a wider spread in the forefoot to help with grip on the trail and in wet conditions.

Breathable Mesh Upper

Dual-layer mesh has been used in the construction of the upper to provide exceptional breathability, durability and support. The mesh actively and efficiently wicks away the build-up of excess sweat and moisture to leave you feeling cool, dry and comfortable as you strive for the best results and performance. Additionally, the mesh encourages cool air to circulate, creating a drier, healthier environment for your feet to thrive in.

As well as improving moisture management, the upper of the Challenger ATR 4 offers supreme durability for a sturdy, reliable shoe that is ideal in all conditions as it battles the elements as well as difficult, unpredictable terrain. An extended toe-cap delivers added durability with protection against debris or sharp objects which may be detrimental to your performance, especially on the aforementioned terrain. Support is ensured by the internal heel-counter, which adds stability in the rearfoot and locks the heel in place preventing any in shoe slipping that could potentially cause chafing and injury.

EVA Midsole

Oversized EVA resides in the midsole for lightweight cushioning and comfort, offering a plush underfoot feel to help each stride feel more comfortable than the last. The cushioning will help improve both comfort and protection, ensuring the gradual wear and tear placed on your joints is kept to a minimum. Furthermore, reinforced cushioning also minimises the potential risk of injury. Working alongside the EVA is an early stage Meta-Rocker which ensures a smoother ride, to improve gait efficiency and transitions.

Podular Outsole

When trail running it is imperative to have an assured footing, with difficult, unpredictable terrain often causing obstacles and challenges to your performance. The Challenger ATR 4 boasts a podular outsole, which delivers an abundance of grip and traction to help fill you with confidence as you take on the trails. 4mm lugs are strategically placed for a full, unrestricted range of motion in all directions and much-needed flexibility to bolster comfort and performance in equal measures.

Hoka One One is the brainchild of two gravity sports enthusiasts Jean-Luc Diard and Nicolas Mermoud. Both men have been adventuring for as long as they can remember, and their trail running experiences have taken them across the globe. Both Jean-Luc and Nicolas are committed to the values of freedom and enjoyment and feel that this is part of to the running experience whether running on the trail or in the city. With this in mind they started to look at the variables that affected the performance of different types of runners. They quickly came to an important conclusion; fatigue, impacts and muscle strains were challenges that runners of all stripes had to deal with every day. So Jean-Luc and Nicolas came up with a brilliant idea, why not design a shoe that would help to alleviate these problems - so that freedom and enjoyment could be guaranteed every time you go running! From that idea Hoka One One was born. The word Hoka is derived from the ancient Maori language and roughly translated to "now it is time to fly". That's just how it feels to run in a pair of Hoka One One shoes; with each and every step, your foot flies. Today's runners from around the world are learning about the benefits of Hoka One One, they have been used by marathon winners. 50 miles, 100 miles and even 2000+ miles ultra-runners as well as runners just like you or I, who want to enjoy running, perform at their peak and feel that important sense of freedom whilst maintaining top physical performance and protecting against shocks, jolts and injuries. So put your best foot forward, it's time to fly!

"Very impressed with the Hokaâ??s. Saved my knees from my awful running stride. Cushions my hard heal landing and allows me to keep max traction with stiff toe sole. Highly recommend."

"Wow - nice, comfy, grippy on the trails. I find them a bit tighter than normal running shoes and am hoping they'll relax as they get broken in with the miles but love them"
