General Sports Training Tips

OK, so you’ve decided you want to start doing some training to keep fit or you’ve registered for a fun run or marathon, or maybe you’re back into pre-season footy training and need some pointers on fitness and food.

  • Well, whether you’re a serious athlete or not, it’s a good idea to think about your diet. Remember, that there is little point in only thinking about your diet when you are training, if the rest of the time your diet is poor. Sport and training should be part of an overall balanced diet and lifestyle
  • Back to Basics…You need to eat the right balance of starchy food, fat, protein and vitamins and minerals to ensure your body runs smoothly and help prevent injury and illness. Ask at a local gym for some help and guidance on diet, or maybe even your local GP can put you on the right track.
  • Don’t go mad at the beginning. Rome wasn’t built in a day, and you could injure yourself in seconds. Start small and then build up pace, distance, weights, length of run/session gradually. Your body won’t get used to running long distances for example, unless it has run those distances on a regular basis.
  • Rest. Your body needs time to recover and rest days are just as important as training days.
