The Surge Jacket from Montane is a highly capable jacket for exploring the outdoors, offering excellent versatility in a lightweight and packable design. It is fully waterproof and breathable thanks to the Gore-Tex membrane while the C-Knit backer is soft and comfortable next to the skin. Gore-Tex is the benchmark for performance outerwear for decades and it refers to the use of a special microporous membrane, bonded to fabric to make them durably waterproof, but still breathable. A waterproof membrane full of microscopic holes, big enough to let moisture vapour escape but too small to allow liquid water through. This is then bonded to a layer of fabric, which is in turn treated with a DWR (Durable Water Repellent) to avoid the fibres themselves getting waterlogged. Gore's C-Knit backer technology optimises comfort while providing durable, waterproof and windproof protection. The smooth texture of the knit backing is soft to the touch and makes the garment easier to slide on and off over other layers.
The jacket has technical tailoring around the arms to prevent arm lift raising the lower hem whilst reaching high. This is particularly greater when you need to maintain maximum coverage from the elements when on steep or tricky terrain that is exposed. The jacket has used articulated darts for a comfortable and ergonomic fit and is tailored to allow light insulation or mid-layers to be worn underneath.
This light, compact jacket will do a great job at keeping you dry from both the inside and out with thanks to the zip construction. With a full-length YKK matte AquaGuard front zip, it provides high water resistance while the internal storm flap behind the centre zip prevents further weather entry. Additionally, the jacket is also equipped with a rollover chin guard lined with brushed fine microfleece which provides ultimate next-to-skin comfort and a mid-height collar that offers increased weather protection when required.
The hood is constructed with many different features to ensure maximum comfort during outdoor activities. With a fully adjustable hood, it is designed to fit comfortably with warm headwear while the stiffened hood peak provides stability and the wired edge allows adjustability. If the hood isn't in use, the internal elastic loop and hoop on the rear hood allow it to be rolled down and stowed away.
