SportsShoes.com partners with Ochy to launch a free, lab-grade online gait analysis that runners can do from home
The tool uses lab-grade AI technology trusted by sporting organisations to score a runner's form from a 10-second phone video, with a full report produced in under a minute
Tracking the body’s major joints and segments, the technology provides runners with advanced analysis and personalised exercises tailored to their weak muscular area
A quarter of runners (25%) have had their gait analysed, up from fewer than 7% a year ago¹
ㅤ
Online running retailer SportsShoes.com and AI biomechanics platform Ochy launch a free online AI gait analysis tool that provides runners with a comprehensive analysis of their running form on a 10-second video filmed on their phone. A full report is returned in under a minute, with personalised recommendations for shoes and exercises to improve any weak points identified in the analysis.
ㅤ
SportsShoes.com partners with Ochy, also used by ASICS, adidas and Juventus Football Club, to make the technology available directly through an online retailer, from the comfort of the runner’s own home. Ochy's models are built on more than 200 peer-reviewed studies and validated against the 3D motion-capture systems used in university biomechanics labs.
ㅤ
Measurement points across the full body pinpoint performance
While most gait analysis tools, whether in-store or online, often analyse a runner’s feet alone, SportsShoes.com assesses six points across the whole body. The full report then connects to SportsShoes.com's range of more than 150 brands to recommend shoes matched to each runner's own biomechanics, their goals and the distances they run.
ㅤ
These are the biomechanical measures across the full stride:
Running posture: How the body is positioned throughout the gait cycle
Cadence: Step rate and overall running rhythm
Pelvic stability: How efficiently the hips stay aligned while running
Lower limb alignment: How the hips, knees and ankles work together
Running symmetry: Movement differences between the left and right side
Footstrike and pronation: How the foot lands, rolls and absorbs impact
ㅤ
Together, these show how efficiently a runner absorbs impact, holds alignment and generates forward momentum. The tool is free to use and available on SportsShoes.com’s website with a SportsShoes Ultra account.
ㅤ
The analysis catches form imbalances runners cannot feel
ㅤ
Runners simply need to film 10 seconds of running on a phone, from the side or from behind. Ochy's computer vision model tracks the body's major joints and segments in every frame, converting the movement into joint angles, timing and alignment data. This covers cadence, ground contact time, footstrike, trunk lean, pelvic drop, knee alignment and pronation.
ㅤ
These measurements are compared against biomechanical reference ranges for efficient, low-injury-risk running and adjusted for the runner's own body. The model is built for running specifically rather than adapted from general body-tracking software.
ㅤ
Runners receive an overall biomechanics score and joint angle readings at the hip, knee, ankle and elbow. Separate left and right scores also reveal any asymmetries. Alongside the numbers, the report clearly outlines what each score means and suggests corrective exercises to help prevent injury, as well as a personalised shoe to match.
ㅤ
Dan Carter, Head of Marketing at SportsShoes.com, says: "Analysis at this level used to mean booking a slot, getting yourself across town and running on a treadmill in front of someone. Now it takes a phone video and a minute of your time, and it's completely free to every Ultra member on our website.
ㅤ
"Most runners have no idea what their hips and knees actually do across a stride, and they're picking shoes without that knowledge. Knowing your footstrike, your cadence and where your weak points are gives you something concrete to choose from. Picking the right shoe for your running form is crucial to help prevent injury, so it’s important not to just base your choice on looks, price or a review written by someone who has a completely different running form.”
ㅤ
Gait analysis uptake has gone from 7% of runners to 25% in a year
ㅤ
Ochy’s technology was available in the Running Lab at SportsShoes.com's “House of SportsShoes” London store for four months at the start of 2026. With demand for gait analysis rising sharply, the technology has been developed to make it easily and quickly accessible for runners in their own home.
ㅤ
SportsShoes.com's 2026 Running Report revealed that a quarter of runners (25%) have had their gait analysed, up from fewer than 7% the previous year. Uptake is highest among runners aged 25 to 34, a third of whom have had an analysis, compared with 13% of those aged 55 and over.
ㅤ
Khaldon Evans, CEO of Ochy, says:
“Partnering with SportsShoes.com is a major step forward in our mission to bring lab-quality running gait analysis directly to everyday runners. We want to help people understand their movement, find the right exercises and footwear, reduce injury risks, and stay active for life.
ㅤ
While OCHY is already trusted in physical stores, SportsShoes.com gives us the digital scale to reach millions of runners globally. Their team is constantly pushing the boundaries of online retail, and combining our AI video analysis with their e-commerce experience unlocks a completely new channel for us. Now, runners can get a full gait analysis from the comfort of their home and immediately match with the ideal footwear for their biomechanics.”
