REVIEW: Nike ZoomX Vaporfly Next% 2
Written By: SportsShoes
The Nike Zoomx Vaporfly Next% 2 has been created to help you achieve your personal goals and break new records. This racing shoe is ideal for 10km to marathon distance and is available on our website in various different colours.
We spoke to our italian ambassador and road runner Emanuele Zoppi, to find out his first impressions and summary of the Nike Zoomx Vaporfly Next% 2 after wearing them for the recent Pisa Half Marathon.
|Drop:||8mm (suitable for heel-strikers)|
|Length:||True to size|
|Width:||Precision fit (more suitable for athletes with thin feet)|
|RATINGS:||(out of 5)|
Visually, these shoes look fantastic! The tapered shape is wonderful and gives you the feeling of speed. This particular colour is my favourite, as bright orange does not make you go unnoticed on the roads. As soon as you wear them, they immediately give you the feeling of lightness and cushioning that every runner looks for in a racing shoe. You can feel the propulsion of the carbon plate when running at speed. I also really like the anti-untie laces.
The stripped-back upper of this shoe gives you the feeling of lightness and breathability, the fit is very tight, with the lacing diagonally you can really lock your feet in place. The shoe is like a natural extension of your foot and feels almost invisible to wear. Because of the precision fit of this shoe, I don't think it's suitable for everyone, especially runners with wide feet. The pointed shape at the back of the shoe really encourages the feeling of fast, but a less stable platform that a traditional road shoe when turning at pace - something to bear in mind.
The ZoomX midsole has an exceptional softness that, when combined with the carbon plate, allows an efficient, economical and pleasant ride. The effect of the carbon fibre plate is noticeable from the very first stride. It propels you forward effortlessly and provides a high-level of energy return. Essentially, the more force you put through the shoe, the more you benefit from the carbon plates and the faster you go! This shoe has a drop of 10mm.
The sole of these Nike ZoomX Vaporfly Next% 2 features a bending groove pattern to increase traction on multiple surfaces in different weather conditions.
SIZE: FIT AND FEEL
The fit is a little tighter than a standard shoe as they're specifically designed for racing. I do not recommend for flat feet, as the feeling of comfort is maximal especially in the distances between the half marathon and the marathon, where the foot gets tired much less than other models tried by me.
Undoubtedly this shoe is not for all runners, I recommend it to runners who push their performance from about sub 4min per km pace. It's suitable for all races between 10km and marathon distance and for athletes wanting to break their PB. I also use it during quality workouts and speed sessions because this shoe helps you push beyond your limit. As for a comparison with the Nike Zoom Vaporfly 4% Flyknit, this model offers greater foot stability especially in curves and rhythm changes.
In conclusion, the Nike ZoomX Vaporfly Next% 2 are perfect shoes for anyone looking for a "competitive advantage" in a race. The carbon plates in the ZoomX midsole, the new upper and the lower 8mm drop make this shoe ideal for anything from 10K to marathon distance.
