QUID GAMES: Quick Draw Score | Presented by SportsShoes

Article Summary

Discover how a fast-paced urban orienteering challenge took over Keswick as runners raced against the clock in the inaugural SportsShoes Quid Games: Quick Draw Score, blending strategy, speed, navigation, and festival atmosphere into one high-energy evening at Keswick Mountain Festival.

Quick Draw Score Takes Over Keswick

For 60 minutes, runners took on one map with complete route freedom in the inaugural Quick Draw Score - a fast-paced urban orienteering challenge held in Keswick town centre as part of the Keswick Mountain Festival. Set against the backdrop of the Derwent hills, this high-energy event was brought to you by SportsShoes Quid Games, in partnership with British Orienteering, and supported by adidas TERREX, YETI and Suunto.

The event required competitors to think fast, move efficiently, and make strategic decisions under pressure. Once the clock started, checkpoints across the course went live, leaving runners to decide their own tactics from the very first second.

With no set route, no mandatory order, and no “right” way to play, there was one question on every runner’s mind: Do I attack the high-value prize checkpoints, or rack up consistent scores across the course in pursuit of the overall win? With valuable points lost for missing the finish deadline, keeping one eye on the clock proved just as important as speed and navigation.

Checkpoints included Lakeland summit Latrigg, a cinema, the infamous Moot Hall, and even a one inside a dragon’s head, which probably tells you everything you need to know about a Quid Games event.

Runners gathered from 5:45pm to prepare, study maps, and finalise race plans ahead of the 7:00pm start. From there, around 100 runners stormed from the start line inside The Pencil Factory, completing a lap around an audience of around 200 people who had just sat down to watch a film as part of the Keswick Festival. A Quid Games trailer was playing on the screen inside and outside, in perfect synchronicity.

The runners then split out into the streets, parks and hidden corners of the town, with some pushing hard for Latrigg summit where a Suunto watch was waiting for the first male and female finisher - a tactical gamble potentially worth missing points on the ground for.
