As part of our season of Greatness, we asked four Sportsshoes Athletes In Residence what greatness means to them and what inspires each of them to greatness. Greatness is within each and everyone one of us, but what ignites it? And how can we take inspiration from what is around us to achieve it? How does the thought of greatness help everyday athletes, go on to achieve bigger and better things? You might find out GREATNESS is never achieved alone….

ETHAN HUSSEY
Ethan Hussey is a rising star of GB athletics, specialising in both 800m and 1500m distances.
He wears the Nike Alphafly and Nike Dragonfly spikes.

What does greatness mean to you?
To me, greatness means performing the best I can at all times and being the most successful I can possibly be. Running fast and winning at all times.
Who inspires you to greatness?
The athletes that inspire me to Greatness are Alastair Brownlee and Steve Prefontaine. Mostly Alastair Brownlee as he’s a double Olympic champion and I’ve had the opportunity to train with him many times so I can see the effort and hard work that goes into being very successful.

RISQAT FABUMNI-ALADE
Risqat (Fabby) is a 100m sprinter with a PB of 11:63.
She wears Nike Pegasus 38 and Nike Maxfly spikes.

What does greatness mean to you?
Greatness to me is passion and putting in the work. It’s talent, consistency and performing when it counts. Taking any barriers in your stride, overcoming things and doing something really special.
Who inspires you to greatness?
I’m someone that draws inspiration from a lot of people, different things. Anyone who’s doing their thing, doing it really well while also being themselves is really inspiring to me. It can be truly hard to be yourself and I admire that.

KIRSTY FRASER
Kirsty specialises in the 800m and 1500m distances and has PB’s of 2:03:45 and 4:18:81 respectively.
She wears the Nike Vaporfly and Nike Victory spikes.

What does greatness mean to you?
To me greatness is shown through your own work and commitment to achieving the goals and dreams that you have for yourself. And being able to persevere when there’s barriers to those goals, that’s when true greatness is shown.
Who inspires you to greatness?
The people who inspire me to greatness are the people around me. My friends, family and my competitors. Seeing their successes and watching those I race against run fast and win races only ever inspires me to work harder, and push myself further.

REUBEN ARTHUR
Reuben Arthur is a sprinter specialising in the 100m. He was a 4x100m relay gold medallist with England at the 2018 Commonwealth Games and has a 100m PB of 10:18 secs.
He wears the Nike Tempo Next% and Nike Maxfly spikes.

What does greatness mean to you?
Greatness to me means living in the fullness of your gifts; it looks different to everybody. For some, that means domination - being the undisputed best. But to me? It means being able to look at myself in the mirror & know I'm being my truest self.
Who inspires you to greatness?
I'm inspired to greatness by great people! It could be an amazing sportsperson like Ronaldo, a savvy business person like Elon Musk, someone being their truest self like Sha'Carri Richardson or someone doing all three like LeBron James - greatness begets greatness!
