How to parkrun

parkrun offers a free, weekly 5k event every Saturday, and in the UK and Ireland a 2k event for juniors every Sunday. Everyone can take part in parkrun, no matter what your age or ability, by running, jogging, walking or volunteering.

Register for parkrun 

1. To register to take part in parkrun head to parkrun | countries and choose your country of residence.
2. Click ‘register here’ then ‘register for parkrun’ and complete the form.
3. You will receive a confirmation email containing your parkrun barcode. Make sure you bring your barcode to parkrun - this can be printed, on a parkrun product or electronically on a device.

Find your parkrun

parkrun takes place across the globe, find the parkrun you want to attend here. Click on the event and view the course page to learn more about the start time, location, terrain and facilities available at the parkrun.

On the day

1. Arrive at the parkrun at the time specified on the event page and head to the start area.
2. Listen carefully to the Run Director’s safety briefing.
3. When everyone is ready the Run Director will say ‘go’ and everyone will set off at the same time. You can run, jog or walk on your own, in a group or with a buggy or a dog. Please remember dogs must be on a short, handheld, non-extendable lead, in control and at your side at all times. No one finishes last as there will be a tail walker.
4. Once you cross the line your time will be recorded and you will be handed a finish token. Stay in the order in which you have finished and do not leave the finish funnel until you have received your finish token. 
5. When you are ready, take your finish token and your personal barcode to one of the volunteer scanners. Do not leave before handing in your finish token, if you accidently take the finish token home then contact the event team as soon as possible to return it. The event email address can be found at the bottom of the event’s website or on your results email. Keep your personal barcode with you as you will need it for your next parkrun. 
6. The event team will process the results as soon as possible after the event and you will receive an email with your result.

How to volunteer

You can volunteer at parkrun in a variety of roles including marshalling, time keeping, barcode scanning and many more.

To sign up to volunteer at parkrun follow these steps: 

1. Register for parkrun as outlined above. 
2. Update your parkrun profile - go to manage your profile, email options and opt in to receiving volunteer appeal emails.
3. Look at the future roster for volunteers on the volunteer tab of the event page of the parkrun you would like to volunteer at. 
4. If you would like to do any of the volunteer roles advertised then email the event (using the email at the top of the page) with your full name and parkrun ID.
5. The event team will confirm the volunteer role you can fill and timings.
6. Before the event the volunteer coordinator will send out an email to confirm everyone’s roles for the event.
