Understanding Pertex® Shield technologies
Waterproof, Breathable & Built for Movement
Pertex® Shield technologies are engineered to balance durable weather protection with the breathability needed for high-output activity. Whether you're moving fast on the hill or navigating exposed ridgelines in changeable conditions, the fabrics work to regulate body temperature and reduce moisture build-up, keeping you dry, comfortable, and focused.

1. Pertex® Shield
Key Features: Waterproof | Breathable | Windproof | Lightweight | Soft | Packable
ㅤ
Pertex® Shield fabrics combine a woven face fabric, with a waterproof breathable membrane, and optional backer. Each fabric is tailored to a specific application, matching the end-use of the garment. The fabrics are suitable for intense pursuits where weight and breathability are key. This versatile approach allows Pertex® Shield fabrics to support a wide spectrum of outdoor activities, from trail running and fast hiking to all-day mountain missions.
ㅤ
Using a 2-layer, 2.5-layer or 3-layer construction, Pertex® Shield fabrics are adaptable across a wide range of applications. 2-layer constructions pair a protective face fabric with a waterproof membrane and require a separate lining inside the garment, suitable for use in insulated waterproof garments.
Favoured as a waterproof outer with an insulating lining, like the Rab Resolution Insulated Down Jacket;
ㅤ
ㅤ
2.5-layer fabrics add a printed or coated layer on the inside that protects the membrane directly, helping reduce bulk and weight—ideal for lightweight, stowable shells, often for trail running and lightweight hiking.
The Montane Minimus Lite Waterproof Jacket is a good example;
ㅤ
ㅤ
3-layer constructions feature a backer fabric for increased durability against internal layers and improved next-to-skin comfort. Preferred for more technical or rugged jackets that you find in the mountains, like the Rab Firewall Mountain Waterproof Jacket;

2. Pertex® Shield Revolve
Key Features: Mono-material construction | Waterproof and breathable | Designed for circularity
ㅤ
Pertex® Shield Revolve is part of our commitment to a more sustainable future. Made entirely from polyester, it uses a mono-material construction —meaning the face fabric, membrane, and backer are all constructed from a single material. This improves compatibility with novel textile recycling technologies, opening the possibility of a more circular system.
ㅤ
There is no compromise in performance or durability. Pertex® Shield Revolve fabrics still deliver fully waterproof, breathable protection suitable for a wide range of outdoor apparel and equipment.
The new Haglöfs L.I.M Airak 2.5L Jacket is great example of Pertex® Shield Revolve being used in a durable, lightweight and packable waterproof jacket;
