Mesh Upper
The upper of the Wave Ibuki 5 is constructed with a highly breathable mesh fabric that delivers exceptional comfort and allows cool air to circulate, whilst removing warm, unwanted air. This design effectively cools your feet and prevents overheating, even during intense runs. For enhanced structure, support, and durability, synthetic overlays have been strategically placed on the toe and sides of the shoe. These overlays offer protection against bumps and abrasions on the trail and contribute to a secure, locked-down fit. Completing the upper is a traditional lacing system which locks the midfoot for a secure fit.

The midsole features Mizuno's Wave technology, engineered to provide maximum cushioning and stability. This unique design effectively prevents partial deformation while offering dynamic support to stabilise your foot and guide it forward during your run. In the heel, Mizuno ENERZY foam delivers exceptional softness underfoot, effectively absorbing impact and transforming it into energy return. This innovative feature helps you to run further and faster by minimising energy loss. This is paired with U4ic, an incredibly lightweight midsole compound that ensures high levels of comfort and performance. The strategic combination of these foams contributes to a lighter overall weight, allowing you to benefit from both cushioning and responsiveness. For added underfoot comfort, a removable insock is included, providing an extra layer of plushness.
Wgrip and X10 Outsole
Completing the shoes is a Wgrip and X10 outsole, a combination of highly durable rubbers. The outsole allows for longer wear in high-impact areas and gives more traction at the heel strike. This is great for the trail as it resists damage across various terrains. The two rubbers have been designed to improve grip on multiple surfaces and excel in wet conditions, forming a solid bond with the ground beneath, assisting in confident push-offs, turns and breaking. The multi-directional lugs bite into the earth to offer advanced grip in wet conditions.
