Zipped pockets allow you to store items securely. An adjustable hood will offer shelter from rainfall as well as retaining heat to the head. A full-zip is easily adjusted to allow more air in and out. Flat-lying seams within the jacket will remove the risk of irritation being caused by rubbing and chafing.
