Merrel MTL Skyfire Matryx Men's Trail Running Shoes

The focus with the Matryx Pack is evolution over reinvention. With Merrel's elite athletes competing at the highest levels in both the MTL Long Sky 2 and the MTL Skyfire 2, the goal was to further tune these styles to meet their needs.

Matryx Upper

Showcasing a highly resistant upper, the MTL Skyfire Matryx ensures protection from a variety of elements to make sure you reach your destination still swathed in dry comfort. The upper utilises Matryx, which is a high performance textile that is highly durable against possible bumps and snags while on unpredictable trails. Yarn threads have been individually coated in high-tenacity Kevlar to both improve durability while allowing air to freely enter the boots with ease. A traditional lacing system provides a locked-in, secure fit while the soft tongue reduces the risk of irritation caused by rubbing and chafing.

Dual Density FloatPro Foam Midsole

Within the midsole Merrell's signature FloatPro Foam has been used to ensure a light, durable ride. The double midsole ensures ample underfoot cushioning to reduce the impact placed upon the feet on tough trails whilst remaining as lightweight as possible so you'll never feel weighed down. The lightweight midsole offers supreme cushioning and support to key areas like the arch and heel, securing the foot for a smoother transition and wear. By supporting these key areas of the foot, the midsole material can also help to offer enough support to prevent discomfort and possible injury. The shoes use a BZM-8 engineered flex plate, which offers increased performance and protection, and the Cleansport NXT treatment offers natural odour control. Completing the midsole is a non-removable EVA foam footbed that offers better cushioning, durability and increased breathability underfoot. The soft insole cushions your feet over long distances and increases ventilation to keep you cool when temperatures rise.

Vibram Megagrip Outsole

Completing these shoes is a Vibram Megagrip outsole. By adding this rubber outsole, the MTL Skyfire 2 Matryx will provide extreme grip and traction for all surface wear. Developed for slippery terrain, the durable rubber can form a solid bond with the ground, anchoring you in place. Despite facing abuse from rough ground, the rubber stands up against this, deflecting the blows and retaining a strong shape and structure. Ensuring multi-directional grip, the outsole provides traction on uneven terrain, giving you confident footing on various surfaces. The durable rubber provides a strong grip on the most challenging terrain; it works to protect itself from damage and protect users from losing control and slipping. Completing the outsole are 5mm lugs that dig deep into the ground when braking or changing direction. The deep lugs can anchor the foot into the wet and muddy ground, securing you in place whilst forming a solid base to push off.
