REVIEW: Altra FWD VIA 2

Altra are back with a brand new update of their reliable neutral road running shoe, the Altra FWD VIA 2. Building on the existing cushioning and comfort of the original FWD VIA, the latest iteration boasts a new midsole foam, an redesigned mesh upper and an updated tongue to make daily miles feel smoother than ever.

The Tech

Following up the first version from 2024, Altra return with an updated take on their FWD VIA silhouette. The Altra FWD VIA 2 incorporates a load of new tech to make it an even more appealing option for racking up daily miles.

New Altra EGO™ P35 Midsole Foam

Engineered for improved efficiency whilst maintaining a light weight, the EGO™ P35 Foam midsole provides a softer and more responsive feel underfoot.

This is the same foam found in Altra's Experience Flow 2, but it is made more cushioned due a 5mm higher stack height (32mm/28mm heel- to-toe FWD VIA vs 37mm/33mm heel-to-toe FWD VIA 2).

As to be expected with Altra shoes, the FWD VIA 2 still has the low 4mm heel-to-toe drop that fans of the brand are familiar with, giving runners that familiar Altra feel with the reduced risk of injuries that can sometimes be associated with zero drop shoes.

Engineered Mesh Upper and New Plush Tongue

A new mesh upper adds improved breathability, while the plush tongue gives a softer fit from the first time you wear the shoe. This shoe received the Seal of Acceptance from the American Podiatric Medical Association (APMA), so you know your feet are in good hands.

The FWD VIA 2 also features the signature Original FootShape™ Fit that is synonymous with their running shoes. This is their most spacious toe box with loads of room to help your toes move more naturally.

Efficient Toe-off and Natural Propulsion

The rocker shape geometry pushes you forward with each and every step, allowing you to maintain your natural gait whilst giving you an efficient toe-off to help you smash your training runs.
