REVIEW: ASICS GEL-NIMBUS™ 26
Written By: SportsShoes
ASICS' most comfortable running shoe just got an update!
Introducing the all new GEL-NIMBUS™ 26 featuring PureGEL™ technology.
We asked our SportsShoes ambassador, Gloria Guidici, to review the ASICS GEL-NIMBUS 26, a shoe model loved by runners all over the world;
|Men's: 304g / Women's: 262g
|Men's: 30mm (Heel) / 22mm (Forefoot) / Women's: 29mm (Heel) / 21mm (Forefoot)
|Most suitable for:
|Long, easy training miles when maximum comfort and cushioning are the highest priorities.
|Updated engineered knit upper for premium comfort and breathability,
|(out of 5)
The seamless upper feels incredible and the stretchy material prevents irritation. It wraps around your foot, ensuring maximum comfort for every run.
Small, perforated holes have been placed on the front ensuring greater breathability during exercise. Furthermore, there are some small reflective panels, useful in conditions of poor visibility. Last but not least it should be noted that at least 75% of the main upper is made from recycled materials.
At the back of the shoe, a firm heel counter helps to hold your feet in place and provide support and stability.
This is where ASICS have introduced the biggest innovation: the midsole is made with FF BLAST+ ECO foam which contains a 20% component of bio-based material from renewable sources, such as sugar cane processing waste. The use of this innovative material combined with the design gives the shoe cushioning combined with greater reactivity, which is noticeable from the very first wear. So much so, that this ASICS model is also well suited to faster-paced training than slower everyday running. Underfoot the cushioning feels more rigid and stable during movement.
The sole is made of AHAR rubber, a material that makes it more resistant and long-lasting. When used in humid conditions the shoe proved to have good grip and not to slip.
SIZE: FIT AND FEEL
The fit is very snug and the foot is perfectly wrapped but not tight, thanks to the slightly elastic fabric which accommodates even a thin foot like mine without being forced to tighten the laces too much. The perforations on the front of the upper ensure that the foot does not sweat excessively and the essentiality of the materials used for the upper make the shoe light. The sole is not as soft as you might expect, it is actually rather rigid and stable in movement.
The sensation of the shoes is very similar to that of super shoes with a carbon plate. The shape of the sole, helps even people who, like me, tend to run more 'seated' to develop a more advanced running style. This helps not to overload the flexors and to maintain a good push on the forefoot without overloading it. This is why I believe they are a very valid option for quality training, such as tempo runs or variations and even quite brilliant long runs, for more advanced athletes. Those who are less experienced can also use this shoe for races up to the marathon. Despite the thickness of the sole, the shoe remains very reactive and the return of energy is immediate and clearly perceptible. I don't consider it a shoe to be used every day because it encourages you to run faster precisely due to the characteristics highlighted above and in the economy of weekly training it is essential to respect the recovery and slow/regenerating running days, for which a shoe with the characteristics of the GEL-NIMBUS 25, for example.
GEL-NIMBUS™ 26 VS GEL-NIMBUS™ 25
The new ASICS GEL-NIMBUS™ 26 has had an upgrade. Retaining all of the key features of the GEL-NIMBUS™ 25, ASICS have simply made a number of small changes to allow for further improvement.
UPDATED ENGINEERED KNIT UPPER
The first upgrade is the lightweight technical knit material, designed to create a unique balance of comfort, breathability and fit. This updated engineering pattern gives the Nimbus a new look and only uses premium quality materials and textures.
KNIT COLLAR CONSTRUCTION
A modernized look featuring a luxurious & premium step-in experience. Featuring an incredibly functional & innovative woven pull tab.
HYBRID ASICS GRIP & AHAR+ HEEL PLUG
Acting on athlete feedback, ASICS recognised that high-wearing areas, particularly around the forefoot and heel required additional reinforcement. The outsole provides the perfect traction and durability thanks to a Hybrid ASICS Grip outsole and AHAR+ heel plug.
Softer, updated version of GEL that maintains all the acclaimed properties that have made GEL famous. It's 65% softer vs previous visible GEL.
FF BLAST + ECO MIDSOLE
ASICS' lightest, most energetic and cushioned FF Blast+ ECO Foam combined with the all new internalised PureGEL ensures better than ever cushioning and comfort.
The most sustainable midsole FF Blast+ ECO foam ever with 24% bio content, which is 20-30% more sustainable vs industry average foams. Premium soft engineered mesh created from recycled polyester.
